Art as a Bridge Between Communities
In 2025, Open Nations together with the creative team Lekuči, supported by the EEA and Norway Grants, brought to life a unique performance project — “Uoda kava. Welcome Anyway” — a creative response to the complexities of integration, identity, and belonging in today’s changing societies.
The performance toured four Lithuanian cities — Vilnius, Kaunas, Visaginas, and Klaipėda — each followed by a facilitated public dialogue on the theme:
“Finding Balance Between Integration and Preserving Identity.”
About the Performance
Built on real stories collected from over 20 hours of deep interviews, the performance reflects the voices, experiences, and emotions of displaced people and host communities. It captures the beauty and tension of cultural encounters — misunderstandings, curiosity, laughter, frustrations, and the search for connection.
Through movement, music, humor, and raw honesty, the stage becomes more than a boundary — it becomes a bridge. A place where differences are transformed into understanding, and where shared human experiences take center stage.
Facilitated Public Dialogue
Each performance was followed by a moderated dialogue designed to move from emotion to reflection. The goal was not to debate, but to create a safe and brave space for open conversation about identity, integration, and community resilience.
The dialogues helped release tension, shift perspectives, and dissolve invisible barriers — not through confrontation, but through shared experience, listening, and presence.
