Our organization and its leader, Svitlana Zaluzhna, participated in the #OurStories project organized by the EEA and Norway Grants, which was highlighted at an exhibition at the European Parliament in Brussels in 2023.
At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Svitlana, who was in Lithuania with her 3 children, saw the importance of supporting families displaced by the war in Ukraine and actively participated in implementing family programs. She says, “We give people the opportunity to be together, to live together, to work together, and, most importantly, to look at the world from a common point of view and see our common European future.”
Here are some of the key achievements of the 2022-2024 programs:
- Donor funds raised: 630,000 euros
- Pro bono funds invested: 32,000 euros
- Main results:
- 20 cross-cultural meetings
- 20 family camps
- 2 community building programs
- 2000+ participants (70% Ukrainians and 30% Lithuanians)
- 100 hours of facilitated dialogues and discussions between Ukrainians and Lithuanians
The programs implemented by the Open Nations NGO demonstrate the effectiveness of a human-centered approach aimed at preserving, supporting, and integrating Ukrainian families into Lithuanian society while strengthening intercultural ties to Ukrainian identity and shaping a common European future.
